Newry is a gateway city, a vital regional hub. Adjacent to major road and rail links, and only an hour’s drive from three major airports, this is a community that is well connected. It is also a community that is well connected. It is also an community that boasts a youthful population, excellent amenities and advanced telecommunications. And, in common with other communities throughout Newry & mourne , Newry offers a high quality of life underpinned by high standards of housing , education , public and natural amenities.

If city status for Newry recognises one thing, then it recognises our importance as a regional hub. Practically equidistant between Belfast and Dublin , Newry has been recognised as a pivot between North and South. The city is not only the home of Newry and mourne district council which alone represents over 87,000 people, it also provides a focal point for a cross border community of almost 200,000 people . and , of course many developments over the years have reflected this cross-border role. For example, the North-South trade and business development body, Intertrade Ireland, is located here , and the city has led the UK in declaring itself and independent Eurozone – with Euro cash points and duel currency shopping.

Other agencies and organisations also reflect Newry’s regional status. Newry and mourne co-operate and enterprise agency owns and manages the WIN BUSINESS Park in Newry – and also manages other parks at Warrenpoint, Flurrybridge ( adjacent to the Belfast/Dublin highway) and at Crossmaglen. T he Daisy Hill Hospital Provides comprehensive regional health services including maternity and A&R and is home to a specialist renal unit. And the Newry institute is one of the leading educational facilities in Northern Ireland with close likes to the university of Ulster and its own £2.5 million Technology and innovation incubation unit.

Against this backdrop, we have seen improved road links with Dublin and regular train services to Belfast fuelling the growth of Newry as a commuter city. People are increasingly drawn here by the high quality of life on offer. Ours after all is a city with an historic canal located at the head of carling ford Lough and is also located at the heart of two areas of outstanding natural beauty – the mountains of mourn and the ring of gullion.

Indeed, with access to great schools and excellent housing, the Newry area is one of the most appealing in all of northern Ireland and offers numerous attractions for both residents and visitors. World-class restaurants throughout the city and district, championship golf on numerous courses including the world famous Royal County Down and Warrenpoint courses , fishing on Newry canal , walking in the mournes and Slieve Gullion, sailing in Carlingford Lough and Camlough Lake – these are but a few of the myriad attractions to be found in the land of Newry and mourne. It is a land of big attractions, big advantages.
