Big Numbers:

The Belfast/Dublin economic corridor is a critical component in the economic and social well being of the island of Ireland. Newry and Dundalk sit at its heart and form an embryonic cross-border mini metropolis that could have a population of over 250,000 and serve and catchment area of 1.36 million people.

Almost 70% of the population of all of Ireland (North and South) live within 70miles of Newry.

The Newry institute has more than 14,000 enrolled students and some 40 community outreach centres.

Over 255 new small businesses were created in Newry & Mourne in 2002.

In 2004, Debenhams will join a long list of prestigious retailers in the Quays shopping centre & leisure Centre - When they take some 60,000 sq ft of retail space.

All five of Newry’ Grammar School appeared in the top 100 schools in the UK in 2003- as listed by the Daily Telegraph.

Big achievements:

Northern Ireland conquered Mount Everest with Newry born Banjo Bannon one of the two-team members to reach the summit.
