Postponed until September 2020
All roads will lead to Newry on Sunday 24th May for the annual Newry City Half Marathon. This course has proven itself to be probably the quickest and flattest course anywhere in Ireland, with Tommy Hughes breaking the world record for a half marathon for a 59 year old. Runners throughout the country commented on the superb organisation, the speed of the course and the beautiful scenery as you run alongside the river.
There has been intense interest in the race and it has been nominated as one of the best half marathon events in the country. Places are expected to book out fast. Included as part of the event will be a free family entertainment zone, with bouncy castles and climbing frames. There will also be a 2k fun run for children and their parents and friends who want to participate in the event.
Damian Mulholland, Chairman Newry City Runners, the Host Club said that “the club want to make Newry known throughout Ireland as a centre for sport and running excellence.
The route is flat and fast making the race one of top half marathons in Ireland. The race will start and finish in the scenic setting of Albert Basin and take in the waterways down as far as Narrow Water Castle. Last year race also raised thousands of pounds for local charities.”
The Half Marathon takes place at 10:00am on Sunday 24th May.
