Newry BID and Newry 2020 were delighted to welcome the Minister for Finance to Newry to show off their new “smart city” project. The Smart Newry initiative will use low-cost internet-enabled sensors to collect real-time environmental data from across the city centre, and will make that data freely available to the public via the project website. Over the coming months Newry 2020 will be engaging with local businesses, community groups and schools to raise awareness and explore potential applications for the data. The project coordinators thanked the Minister and his Department for supporting this exciting initiative through their Open Data NI Innovation Fund. The Minister visited the HUB in Newry which is a location for one of the sensors.
